History of the Okinawa Tote

In 2006, Lindsay (2nd generation InRugCo) was living in Okinawa, Japan with her husband.  Her sister, Sommer, who also works at the family business, fabricated the original Okinawa tote and mailed it to Japan as a birthday present for Lindsay. This beautiful handmade tote with unique fabric quickly became Lindsay's favorite tote.

In Japan, Lindsay worked at a school and she began carrying the tote to work.  She loved how she could fit all her work essentials easily into the tote. Her fellow teachers went crazy over it's great size, functionally, and cute fabric combinations. The teachers kept asking, where did you get that amazing tote?

Lindsay phoned home to Sommer to tell her what a hit her tote was!  The teachers all wanted one.  8 handmade bags made their way to Okinawa, Japan, beginning the line of what we have dubbed the "Okinawa Tote."
