The Story Behind our Name

The Story Behind our Name

So why is our name InRugCo Studio & Gift Shop?

People are often SHOCKED when they visit us and realize we sell more than rugs!

There is a reason for our unique name. All you need to know is yes, we are a gift shop, outdoor store, general store, & bakery rolled into one.

Regarding the name, when we started in 1985, we just made custom area rugs. Some rugs are simple beige rugs with borders & others are more like artwork in carpet.

To this day, we still make custom area rugs, but just how did our shop evolve? Well, we learned it's really hard to have a retail store solely selling custom area rugs, so we slowly started to diversify our inventory with our pillows & aprons.

As the years went on, we added more items we make by hand but gradually realized we should also fill the store with products we as a family use & love. Our first "name brand" products were Lodge Cast Iron & Spice House Spices and we've been snowballing forward ever since.

Today the store is a mix of trusted brand names & items designed by us you won't find anywhere else.

Ok but why the name? Most people know us as Indiana Rug Company. If you Google map that name it takes you to our warehouse where we offer carpet binding services to the public. (This warehouse is not our retail store)

So we abbreviated our name to InRugCo and made that the official name of our gift shop. Google map InRugCo and you'll arrive at our retail shop.

Could we have changed our name to something more basic like Mishawaka Gifts or similar? Sure, but we wanted our name to reflect our roots. We've never done things the traditional way so we weren't going to start now.

From Durango, Colorado to River Park to Downtown South Bend & finally to Mishawaka, it's been a wild ride and we'd like to thank all our loyal customers for sticking with us all these years. We really appreciate everyone spreading the word about our store & what we have to offer.

InRugCo is pronounced how it's spelled with no pauses.
