One of the greatest resources for outdoor activity in St. Joseph County is the East Race in South Bend that jogs along the St. Joseph River. By taking a short connection through the sidewalks of River Park, you can connect to the Mishawaka Riverwalk.
Additional mileage is being added to the Mishawaka Riverwalk on the eastern end, with the final loop to be near a 5k.
The East Race trail near Howard Park continues north turning into the IN-MI River Valley Trail which currently runs as far north as Niles, Michigan.
