Dodge Manufacturing Company Shirt

The last of Mishawaka's "Big 3" factories. 

Founded in 1878 by Mishawaka born Wallace Dodge, Dodge Manufacturing Company would go on to patent the wood split pulley which would be sold around the world.

Their next innovation, the Dodge American System of power transmission, combined water & steam sources of power along with machines driven by rope. 

By 1900 the 60 acre Dodge plant located at 500 Union Street, was, "the largest factory in the world for producing power transmission equipment."

Ultimately, the plant was sold to Reliance Electric in 1967. In 2006, the plant closed for good. Today the buildings lay dormant, a shadow of the former manufacturing powerhouse.
